The SummerZest Children’s Festival takes place on Wednesday 14th August 2019 at the Taunton Racecourse and children’s author, Stewart Foster has been announced to kick start the Children’s Literary element of this year’s festival. The festival will feature arrange of activities; along with variety of trade stands, local crafts and range of exciting storytelling throughout the day.

Stewart Foster, author of the children’s novels, The Bubble Boy and All the Things that could go Wrong will be leading the story telling experience. As a Amazon Rising Star in 2015 and a Guardian Author to Watch in the same year. The Bubble Boy won Sainsbury Book of the Year in 2016, was Carnegie Medal Listed and along with All the things that could go Wrong, has won numerous national schools and libraries awards. Stewart’s novel for adults, we used to be Kings was also highly critically acclaimed. Stewart loves writing about the real issues that children face, to help them learn but of course to entertain. If children catch the bug to read early, maybe it will set them up for life.

Stewart said “I’m so pleased to be the guest author of the SummerZest Children’s Festival 2019. I’m passionate about writing but more importantly I love to meet and chat writing/reading with my audience. The Bubble Boy and All the Things that could go Wrong, address very important issues, and I would love to discuss them with you, but most importantly for you to all have fun meeting me and all the other wonderful authors at the event. I think it’s going to be a great day”.

Mrs Recycle is asking children to bring their odd socks along for the recycling workshops and we have arts and crafts alongside the amazing Make. Balloon making and juggling adds to the day’s activities with our first entertainment programme. The festival continues to develop each year, as we expand our ideas and this year, we are raising funds for the Kids & Teens Cancer Research campaign by working with the volunteers to ask for donations in lieu of car parking. A cash machine is now available throughout the day and a chance for children to listen to storytelling and enjoy the Inflatable City that returns with some new surprises.
A BIG thank you to everyone who continues to support the vision to see this festival become bigger each year. It’s a challenge with a new concept but we hope that the children will enjoy the chance to just jump up and down and make some noise throughout the day.
Sorry no dogs permitted on site and the site is a non-smoking zone.
Please note roadworks are taking place beyond the Taunton Racecourse and we advise entrance from Taunton on approaching the racecourse.
